Mente ("we", "us", "our") is an AI-powered personal knowledge management service operated by Mente. This privacy policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that data.

1. What Data We Collect

Account Information

When you sign up, we collect your name, email address, and profile photo through our authentication provider (Clerk). If you sign in with Google, we receive basic profile information from your Google account.

Saved Content

Mente stores the URLs you save, along with the extracted text content, AI-generated summaries, categories, key concepts, and metadata (title, author, publication date). This includes content saved through:

• The Mente web application at app.getmente.com
• The Mente browser extension
• The Mente Telegram bot

Notes and To-Dos

Any notes you write and todos you create within Mente are stored in our database, along with their AI-generated summaries and connections.

Usage Data

We use Google Analytics to collect anonymous usage data such as page views, feature usage, and general traffic patterns. This helps us understand how people use the product and improve it.

2. Browser Extension

The Mente browser extension allows you to save the current page URL to your Mente account with one click. The extension:

• Sends the URL of the page you choose to save to our servers
• Requires you to be signed in to your Mente account
• Does not track your browsing activity or collect data from pages you do not explicitly save
• Does not run background scripts or inject content into pages you visit

3. Telegram Bot

The Mente Telegram bot allows you to save URLs by sending them in a chat. The bot:

• Processes only the messages you send it directly
• Stores the URLs you send for processing into your Mente account
• Stores your Telegram user ID to link your Telegram account to your Mente account
• Does not access your Telegram contacts, groups, or other conversations

4. How We Use AI to Process Your Data

When you save content, Mente uses the OpenAI API (GPT-4o) to:

• Generate summaries of saved articles and notes
• Extract key concepts and assign categories
• Discover connections between your saved items
• Generate actionable todos from your content
• Create embeddings for semantic search

Your content is sent to OpenAI's API for processing. OpenAI's API data usage policy states that data sent through the API is not used to train their models. We use the API solely to provide Mente's features to you.

5. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored in a PostgreSQL database hosted on Railway (cloud infrastructure). We use industry-standard security practices including encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS), secure authentication through Clerk, and access controls to protect your data.

6. We Do Not Sell Your Data

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing or advertising purposes. Mente is a paid product. Our business model is subscriptions, not ads or data monetization.

7. Third-Party Services

Mente uses the following third-party services to operate:

• Clerk — Authentication and user management
• OpenAI — AI content processing (summaries, categories, concepts)
• Polar — Payment processing and subscription management
• Railway — Application and database hosting
• Google Analytics — Anonymous usage analytics

Each of these services has its own privacy policy governing how they handle data.

8. Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access your data — All your saved content, notes, and todos are visible in your Mente dashboard
• Delete your data — You can delete individual items at any time. To delete your entire account and all associated data, contact us at hello@getmente.com
• Export your data — Contact us to request a full export of your data
• Cancel your subscription — You can cancel anytime through your billing settings

9. Cookies

Mente uses essential cookies for authentication (keeping you signed in) and analytics cookies through Google Analytics. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.

10. Children's Privacy

Mente is not intended for users under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we will notify users through the application or by email. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects when the policy was last revised.
